When I enrolled into English 1001, I didn’t have the best experience with writing. Yeah, I wrote a bit of some essays here and there in high school, but thinking about my major which pertains to Real Estate, I never thought that I needed writing to be my strongest suit. I just thought this would’ve been another class I was going to have to write papers and get a passing grade on it. I had a small interest in free writing, what I wanted to write about. Never having to have a topic or starting point where then I had to write about that. In English 1001, not only have I been taught about the different genres and different viewpoints on having an audience for a specific piece of wiring, but looking back at the 7-8 page papers I wrote, I saw a drastic growth in my writing. I never knew I could sit down and type up and paper length that long. That opened my eyes and somehow grew my strength for writing. I never knew the different types of genres you could base your wiring off of until I got into this class. I definitely have a better understanding about writing and how much a difference one class can strengthen such short and precise writing and turn it into pages after pages.
The article states “Learning requires that the individual orchestrate many different cognitive processes including, for example, memory and attention”. I think this is a very valid statement. I have noticed a change in my memory as I grow. I’m starting to remember things that happened in the past and they’re regaining memory. When reading the starter of the topic I’m supposed to be writing about, I notice that I have that set topic and start writing like it’s nothing. With the past coming back into play, this also helps my writing in different setting points in a way because I can take what I know and make it strengthen it more. We see in each episode that these designers are given a theme to accomplish and make an outfit that fits that theme. Each designer has their own different intake on how to design each outfit and what they think what till work best. Each week, they have a runway show and are given feedback each individually about their work. With this, each designer takes that feedback into consideration and strengthens each area that needs work. With this, we can see that the designers are learning from their mistakes in the past that will potentially help them in the future with their outfits. Memory is not a unitary capacity; it is a set of processes by which a learner reconstructs past experiences and forges new connections among them.
I was also very terrified by the page length requirements. My writing was typically short and to the point so I knew I’d have to change up my writing style to meet it. Having an audience was something I was not used to either but I think this can help you have more commentary in your writing to enhance the piece and meet the length requirements. I really like your point about learning from the past. You can’t gain new knowledge without reflecting on what you already know.
